We understand that neuropathy can impact your entire life, and our goal is to determine and manage the cause of your neuropathy and relieve the symptoms so you can live a full life.

Treatment depends on the type of neuropathy you have and the cause. It can involve medication, therapy, surgery or a combination.

Options include:

  • Pain relievers, from over-the-counter anti-inflammatory drugs to prescription medications to ease your pain.
  • Anti-seizure medications, which are known to help with nerve pain
  • Creams and patches
  • Antidepressants, which are known to interfere with the chemical processes in the brain and spinal cord that cause you to feel pain
  • Intravenous or oral therapies used to treat specific, progressive neuropathies
  • Pain management interventions for certain neuropathies

Options include:

  • Transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation (TENS), in which electrodes placed in the affected area send gentle electric currents to ease the pain.
  • Physical therapy to help improve muscle strength and movement.

There are surgical options for people with neuropathies that compress the nerves. The surgery can remove a tumor or otherwise reduce the pressure causing pain.
