Joanne Berger-Sweeney, BA, MPH, PhDJoanne Berger-Sweeney, BA, MPH, PhD (Chair)

President and Professor of Neuroscience, Trinity College

Joanne Berger-Sweeney was inaugurated as the 22nd president of Trinity College on October 26, 2014. Before coming to Trinity, Ms. Berger-Sweeney served as Dean of the School of Arts and Sciences at Tufts University (2010-14). Before Tufts, Berger-Sweeney was a member of the Wellesley College faculty, which she joined in 1991 as an assistant professor in the Department of Biological Sciences, and rose through the ranks to become the Allene Lummis Russell Professor in Neuroscience. Her teaching and research career at Wellesley spanned 13 years prior to being named associate dean in 2004.

Ms. Berger-Sweeney serves on many boards in the Hartford region, including MetroHartford Alliance; Hartford HealthCare; the Connecticut Conference of Independent Colleges, the Hartford Consortium for Higher Education; and the Capital Region Development Authority. She also is a board member of Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory and she serves on the board of AFS-USA.

Ms. Berger-Sweeney received her undergraduate degree in psychobiology from Wellesley College and her M.P.H. in environmental health sciences from the University of California, Berkeley.

Gregory ToczydlowskiGregory Toczydlowski (Vice Chair)

Executive Vice President And President, Business Insurance, Travelers Insurance

Greg Toczydlowski is Executive Vice President and President of Business Insurance for Travelers. He was previously President of Small Commercial, Business Insurance Technology and Operations. Before that, Mr. Toczydlowski was President of Personal Insurance, and served as Chief Operating Officer of Personal Insurance, where he led Sales and Product Management. He was also Chief Financial Officer for the independent agency distribution channel within Personal Insurance.

Mr. Toczydlowski is a trustee of Springfield College.

Mr. Toczydlowski holds a bachelor’s degree from Springfield College and a master’s degree in business administration from the University of Hartford.

Donald Allan, Jr.

President and Chief Executive Officer of Stanley Black & Decker

Donald Allan, Jr., is president and chief executive officer of Stanley Black & Decker, the world’s largest tool company headquartered in the United States. Don joined the company in 1999 as director of financial planning before ascending as first vice president and controller then president and chief financial officer. He has been instrumental in growing the company from $3 billion in revenues in 2009 to $15.6 billion today. Prior to Stanley Black & Decker, he held financial management positions with Loctite Corporation and worked at Ernst & Young.

Mr. Allan’s commitment to community service runs deep. He serves on the board of several non-profits including Junior Achievement of Southwest New England and Boy Scouts Connecticut Rivers Council.

Don is lead director at Anderson Corporation and a member of the Business Roundtable. He earned a bachelor’s degree in accounting from the University of Hartford and is a certified public accountant.

Gregory BaratsGregory Barats

President and Chief Executive Officer, HSB Group Inc.

Greg Barats is President and Chief Executive Officer of HSB Group Inc. and assumed responsibility in September 2011. Previously, he was appointed Executive Vice President of HSB engineering services in 2008.

Mr. Barats co-founded two companies and has held executive management positions within Munich Re, HSB and AIG. At AIG he was senior vice president and also served as chair of SAIGTAS, a Shanghai-based subsidiary of AIG.

Prior to his tenure at AIG, Mr. Barats co-founded Applied Earth Technology Inc., a physical science research firm focused on the energy sector and Applied Environmental Technology Inc., specializing in environmental assessment and remediation in the San Francisco region. He began his career as a research scientist for the United States Geological Survey in Menlo Park, California.

Mr. Barats serves on the Munich Re U.S. P&C Operations Executive Board, and on the boards of various HSB affiliated corporations.

Mr. Barats holds a BS in geology and a master’s degree in business administration with emphasis in finance from Southern Oregon University.

Francisco L. BorgesFrancisco L. Borges

Partner, Co-Head of Secondary Solutions, Ares Management

Francisco Borges is a Partner and Co-Head of Secondary Solutions for Ares Management. Prior to joining Ares in 2021, Mr. Borges was Chairman and Managing Partner of Landmark. Previously, Mr. Borges was Managing Director of GE Capital's Financial Guaranty Insurance Company and Capital Markets subsidiaries. In addition, he was Treasurer of the State of Connecticut, Deputy Mayor of the City of Hartford, and Legal Counsel for the Travelers Insurance Companies.

Mr. Borges serves as a member of the boards of directors for the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation and the Hartford HealthCare Corporation.

Mr. Borges holds a BA from Trinity College in Political Science and a J.D. from the University of Connecticut School of Law.

Gregory Butler, Esq.Gregory Butler, Esq.

Executive Vice President and General Counsel, Eversource

Atty. Gregory Butler is Executive Vice President and General Counsel at Eversource Energy and has been with Eversource for the past 24 years.

Atty. Butler serves as a member of the Board of Directors of numerous Eversource subsidiaries as well as the Eversource Energy Foundation. He also serves on the Boards of the following: Connecticut Business Industry Association, Connecticut Health Foundation, the Connecticut Public Broadcasting Network, Connecticut Public Affairs Network, Metro Hartford Alliance and New England Council. He is a member of the Energy Bar Association and is a senior fellow of The American Leadership Forum.

Atty. Butler received a bachelor’s degree in history from Stony Brook University in 1980 and J.D. from the Albany Law School of Union University in 1988. He is admitted in New York and to the United States Court of Appeals for the 9th Circuit.

Christopher J. SwiftChristopher J. Swift

Chairman and CEO, The Hartford

Christopher J. Swift is chairman and CEO of The Hartford, a national leader in property & casualty insurance (P&C), group benefits and mutual funds, founded in 1810.

Swift, who was named CEO in 2014, was the driving force in the company’s transformation, resulting in a more focused, disciplined leader in property and casualty, group benefits, and mutual funds. He expanded the company’s capabilities and geographic reach through organic growth and strategic investments, including the purchase of Aetna’s U.S. group life and disability business in 2017 and The Navigators Group, Inc., a specialty lines property and casualty business, in 2019. He also completed the company’s exit from the run-off life and annuity business, providing greater financial flexibility and improving The Hartford’s return on equity and earnings growth profile. The Hartford ranks highest among insurance companies on the 2024 JUST 100 list by independent research nonprofit JUST Capital and CNBC, marking the sixth consecutive year on the list. He has appeared on CNBC and Bloomberg on a number of occasions.

As a long-time advocate of diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI), Swift is the foremost champion of The Hartford’s DEI initiatives, resulting in the company’s leading board diversity, improved executive representation, and top-ranked company culture. He also is a member of the Chief Executives for Corporate Purpose, Council on Foreign Relations, and The Geneva Association.

Swift joined The Hartford in March 2010 as executive vice president and chief financial officer. In that position, he played a central role in the company’s strategic transformation to focus on the property & casualty, group benefits, and mutual funds businesses. He was also instrumental in strengthening the balance sheet through the sale of its individual life and retirement plans businesses and reducing debt.

Previously, Swift held senior leadership and finance roles at American International Group (AIG). He began his career as a certified public accountant at KPMG LLP focused on financial services and was eventually appointed head of the Global Insurance Industry Practice.

He earned a bachelor's degree in accounting from Marquette University, where he is also a trustee.

Yvette MeléndezYvette Meléndez

President, YMR Consulting

Yvette Meléndez is President of YMR Consulting. Ms. Meléndez retired in 2017 as Interim President of the Hartford Foundation for Public Giving where she also chaired its Board of Trustees. Ms. Meléndez is the former Vice President, of Government and Community Alliances for Hartford HealthCare. Prior to leading the Hartford Foundation for Public Giving and her role with Hartford Healthcare, she was Chief Administrative Officer for the Connecticut State University System and served as Commissioner and Deputy Commissioner for the State Department of Public Health.

Most recently she was appointed by Governor Ned Lamont to serve on the board of directors for the Partnership for CT. The Governor had also appointed her to his Transition Team, and named her co-chair of the Education Policy Committee. Ms. Meléndez is a member of the board of the MITRE Corporation. She served as vice chair of the CT Board of Regents for Higher Education and currently serves on various other boards including the Board of Directors for Hartford HealthCare’s Hartford Region, the Connecticut Public Broadcasting Network, the and the Connecticut Health Foundation.

Ms. Meléndez received a master’s degree in management from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and a bachelor’s degree from Brooklyn College of the City University of New York. She has completed studies at Cornell University in industrial and labor relations, and is a certified as a labor negotiator.

Judy D. Olian, PhDJudy D. Olian, PhD

Judy Olian, PhD, has served as President of Quinnipiac University since July 2018.

Prior to joining Quinnipiac University, Ms. Olian served as dean of UCLA Anderson School of Management and John E. Anderson Chair in Management for 12.5 years. Under her leadership, UCLA Anderson hired a record number of faculty, expanded its prestigious Board of Visitors, and raised over $450 million for students and faculty support, innovative programming, and capital improvements.

Prior to that, she was dean and professor of management at the Smeal College of Business Administration at Pennsylvania State University, and professor and senior associate dean at the Smith School of Business at the University of Maryland. Olian has also served as the chairman of the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB International), the premier business accrediting and management thought leadership organization in the world.

Kola Olofinboba, MDKola Olofinboba, MD

Managing Partner, Fairview Capital

Dr. Olofinboba is a Managing Partner at Fairview. Additionally, he serves on the advisory boards of several private equity partnerships in Fairview’s fund portfolios. Prior to joining Fairview, Dr. Olofinboba was an Engagement Manager at McKinsey & Company, serving U.S. and global clients in healthcare and private equity. He has also practiced medicine as a board-certified internist/hospitalist and assistant professor at the University of Connecticut Health Center in Farmington, CT.

He serves on the boards of directors for Liberty Bank, Hartford HealthCare, and the National Association of Investment Companies (NAIC).

Dr. Olofinboba received his medical degree from the University of Ibadan, Nigeria and an MBA in Financial Management from the MIT Sloan School of Management, where he was a Robert Toigo Fellow.

John Petillo, PhDJohn Petillo, PhD

President, Sacred Heart University

Dr. John J. Petillo was named President of Sacred Heart University in March 2011. Before that, he had served as interim President since October 2010 and Dean of the University’s Jack Welch College of Business since March 2009. Before coming to SHU, Dr. Petillo was President of the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey. His other professional experience includes serving as President and Chief Executive Officer of the Newark Alliance; Regional President of First Union Insurance Services; Chief Executive Officer of The Tribus Companies; Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer of CareAdvantage, Inc.; and President and Chief Executive Officer of Blue Cross Blue Shield of New Jersey. He was also Chancellor and Chief Executive Officer of Seton Hall University.

Dr. Petillo currently serves on the Connecticut Conference of Independent Colleges (CCIC) and Chair of the St. Vincent’s Medical Center Board of Directors.

Dr. Petillo holds a bachelor’s degree in classical languages and a master’s in counseling from Seton Hall University; a professional diploma in counselor education from Fordham University; a master’s in public administration from Rutgers; a master of divinity degree in pastoral theology from the Darlington School of Theology; and a Ph.D. in counseling and personnel services from Fordham.

Patricia Roberts, MD, FACS, FASCRSPatricia Roberts, MD, FACS, FASCRS

Chair Emeritus Department of Surgery, Lahey Hospital and Medical Center

Dr. Patricia Roberts serves as the Chair Emeritus for the Department of Surgery at the Lahey Hospital and Medical Center since 2019. Dr. Roberts started her career as a staff surgeon at the Lahey Clinic in 1988. Previously, she served as Senior staff Surgeon for the Division of Colon and Rectal Surgery since 1988. Dr. Roberts was chair for the Department of Surgery from 2012 to 2019 and was Chair of the Division of Colon and Rectal Surgery from 2002 to 2013.

Dr. Roberts served as Treasurer, President Elect and President of the American Society of Colon and Rectal Surgeons.

Dr. Roberts received her BA degree magna cum laude and received her MD from Boston University School of Medicine in Boston, Massachusetts.

Eric Rosow

Co-founder and Chief Executive Officer of Conduce Health

Eric Rosow of Avon is the co-founder and chief executive officer of Conduce Health, a New York City-based company dedicated to optimizing specialty healthcare providers for the delivery of value-based care to Medicare subscribers. This is the latest endeavor for the man who has successfully founded and run venture capital-funded healthcare technology companies for more than 30 years. Prior to launching Conduce in February 2023, he was co-founder and CEO of Diameter Health, chairman of ReadyDock Inc., co-founder and CEO of Premise Corporation, and, from 1995 to 2003, director of biomedical engineering at Hartford Hospital.

Mr. Rosow has served on the board of for-profit and non-profit organizations including: Chamberlain University, iCleanse, Qualidigm, Cooper-Atkins, Medical Risk Management Group, and the Connecticut Technology Council. He regularly participates in the Pan Mass Challenge, a bicycling event that raises money for research at Dana Farber Cancer Institute.

He is a graduate of Trinity College and earned a master of science degree in biomedical engineering from the Rensselaer/Hartford Graduate Center. In 2021, he earned the Connecticut Entrepreneur of the Year award and was named to the “Power 50” list by the Hartford Business Journal.

Joseph R. VoelkerJoseph R. Voelker

Executive Vice President, Organization Innovation, Cedrone & O'Neill

Joseph Voelker is Executive Vice President for Organization Innovation at Cedrone & O'Neill. Prior to this position, Voelker was the Chief Human Resources Officer for Stanley Black & Decker, Inc. Mr. Voelker began his career at the General Electric Company and held numerous positions in the transportation, quartz, and lighting business.

Mr. Voelker is committed to community service. He currently serves as the Vice Chair of Hartford Healthcare Board of Directors and Board Chair of Ready Connecticut.

Mr. Voelker graduated cum laude from Gannon University and received the Kinnane Graduate Award from Mercyhurst College where he earned a Master’s Degree in Criminal Justice Management. He also earned a Master’s Degree in Adult Education from Penn State University.
