The pelvic floor is a web of ligaments and muscles supporting organs in the abdomen.
As women get older, pregnancy, infection, and even obesity can weaken those muscles, something we call PFDs. About one in every four women will experience one in her lifetime.
The result can be conditions like urinary incontinence, accidental bowel leakage, or prolapse of the bladder or uterus, in which the organs slip out of their normal place. These conditions can be managed through various approaches, including pelvic floor physical therapy.
