Aetna IOQ Spine Surgery Recognition
St. Vincent’s Medical Center has been designated as an Aetna Institute of Quality® for Spine Surgery. St. Vincent’s Spine Surgery Program was chosen for consistently delivering evidence-based, safe care and a proven commitment to continuous improvement.

St. Vincent’s Named a Magnet® Hospital for Nursing Excellence
St. Vincent’s Medical Center has achieved Magnet® recognition from the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), a distinction that places the hospital’s nursing staff among the finest in the nation.
As a Magnet-certified hospital, St. Vincent’s is part of a select group of 548 healthcare organizations out of nearly 6,150 in the United States. It is one of seven such hospitals in Connecticut and 22 in New England.
Advanced Certification in Spine Surgery
St. Vincent’s Medical Center is one of only six centers in the country to receive Advanced Certification in Spine Surgery from The Joint Commission, an independent organization dedicated to improving healthcare for the public.
The spine program at St. Vincent’s, a collaboration between the Ayer Neuroscience and the Connecticut Orthopaedic Institutes, is one of only two hospitals in Connecticut to receive this certification. The only other Connecticut facility with this designation is Hartford HealthCare’s Connecticut Orthopaedic Institute at MidState Medical Center in Meriden.
These accreditations make Hartford HealthCare the only system in Connecticut with advanced spine certification.
