Within the Basic/Refresher Course for Human Subjects Research in CITI, you must select a learner group. You should select your learner group based on your role in the study. If you are a Principle Investigator (PI), Co-Investigator, Research Assistant/Coordinator, Fellow or Resident working on a research study involving access to Protected Health Information (PHI), you should choose the between learner Group 1: Biomedical Research Investigators or learner Group 2: Social & Behavioral Research Investigators. If you will not have any direct interaction with participants including consenting, access to participant PHI, or will only be working with de-identified or coded data or laboratory specimens, then you may sign up for Group 6: Research with data or laboratory specimens - ONLY.
Once initial training is completed, a Refresher Course must be taken every 3 years. Information for earning CME/CEU credits is available from the CITI website.
