We offer a range of courses for both medical clinicians and the general public, including first aid and CPR for children, basic life support for healthcare providers, advanced cardiac life support, and pediatric advanced life support.

American Heart Association (AHA) Training Center

We are one of the largest training centers in the state of Connecticut, with over 350 instructors throughout CT and MA, and oversee 7 training sites that conduct training sessions in accordance with all AHA guidelines.  

Hartford Hospital CESI EMS is an approved American Heart Association (AHA) training center. We promote the mission of the AHA, fighting heart disease and stroke, and provide high quality AHA training in basic life support, advanced cardiac life support, pediatric advanced life support, blood borne pathogens, EKG/pharmacology, and advanced airway.

Basic Life Support (BLS)

Basic Life Support (BLS) Provider

Duration: 4-hour course for healthcare providers

The BLS Provider Course curriculum reflects the 2015 American Heart Association Guidelines for Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation and Emergency Cardiovascular Care.

Learning Objective

Review, organize, and prioritize the information and skills needed to manage a cardiac arrest, airway obstruction, or other life-threatening emergency.

  • 1- and 2-rescuer CPR for adults, children, and infants
  • Automated External Defibrillator (AED) use
  • Differences between adult, child, and infant rescue techniques
  • Bag-mask ventilation
  • Rescue breathing
  • Relief of choking for adults, children, and infants
  • CPR with an advanced airway in place
  • Team dynamics

Intended Audience

Healthcare providers caring for patients in prehospital and in-facility environments, including nurses, physicians, respiratory therapists, advanced practitioners, paramedics, and healthcare providers working in hospitals, clinics, dental offices, skilled nursing facilities, and assisted-living facilities.

Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)

Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) Provider

Duration: 16-hour (2-day) course for healthcare providers who have never taken an ACLS course before.

The ACLS Course reflects the 2015 American Heart Association Guidelines for Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation and Emergency Cardiovascular Care.

Learning Objective

Review, organize, and prioritize information and skills needed to manage cardiac arrest and the time period immediately before and after a cardiac arrest.

Healthcare professionals involved in the management and treatment of cardiopulmonary arrest and cardiovascular emergencies, including physicians, nurses, residents, fellows, medical and nursing students, EMTs, paramedics, respiratory therapists, and emergency or critical care personnel.

Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) Refresher

Duration: 8-hour (1-day) course for ACLS-certified healthcare professionals renewing certification.

Prerequisites

Candidates must submit a copy of a current AHA Healthcare Provider ACLS card to the instructor.
