Sprains

Sports Health Conditions: Sprains

Sprains happen when ligaments, the flexible tissue that bonds your bones and keeps your joints stable, are stretched or torn.

Sprains commonly affect the ankles, knees, and wrists.

Chronic pain can happen if a sprain does not heal properly, so good rehabilitation is important. If damage is severe or rehab doesn’t offer a return to stability, surgery may be recommended.
