Summer fellowship prepares student nurses for the profession

August 09, 2024

Congratulations to 110 student nursing fellows who completed the 2024 Hartford HealthCare Nursing Fellowship Program in various specialties: med surg, oncology, critical care, emergency department, cardiology, operating room, neuroscience, obstetrics and peri anesthesia nursing.

The eight-week fellowship program gives rising senior nursing students the opportunity to experience the professional role of the nurse in multiple specialty practice areas within Hartford HealthCare’s seven hospitals. The program is designed to engage nursing students through multimodal learning opportunities with the goal of retention in nursing support roles during the remainder of their academic program and conversion to graduate nurse positions post-graduation. Nursing professional development team members, nurse leaders, and nurse preceptors participate in running this program to retain students for future employment.

Sarah Hirx, MSN, RN, Fairfield Region director, Nursing Professional Development & Practice Excellence and Warly Remegio, DNP, RN, vice president, Nursing Professional Development & Practice Excellence, co-lead this initiative.
