What happened:

Staff at the Backus Outpatient Care Center scheduled a ride for a cardiology patient through the Ride Health transportation service. As employees were leaving for the day, they found the patient still waiting for a ride. Four additional attempts were made to set up a ride through Ride Health, without success. The patient began to experience supraventricular tachycardia – an irregular heartbeat – and an ambulance was called to take the patient to Backus Hospital for further evaluation. Staff members stayed with the patient until the ambulance arrived.

The team’s attention to detail, compassion and effective handoff to Backus Hospital ensured the best possible outcome for a patient following a transportation failure.
