What happened:

Justine was caring for an ICU patient and noticed a change in the individual’s voice. She attempted to suction the patient, met resistance and alerted the Intensivist. Further testing revealed a serious condition that warranted transfer to Hartford Hospital.

Safety behaviors demonstrated:

Justine’s Attention to Detail and STAR behaviors included ARCC-ing her concerns to the appropriate subject-matter expert. Her attentiveness and quick response to a change in condition led to a timely transfer of the patient to a higher level of care.
