What happened:

During a home visit, a patient demonstrated depressed behaviors, avoiding eye contact, and answering only “yes” or “no” to questions. Although the patient scored as low-risk for suicide on the formal assessment, Mary used her clinical judgement and determined the patient was not safe to be left alone. While she was contacting the mobile crisis team for further evaluation, the patient left his home. Mary dialed 911 and kept the patient in a safe line-of-sight until police arrived. The patient was brought to the hospital and received psychiatric care.
