Good Catch Champion: Daniel Swan

July 26, 2022

Daniel Swan

Rehabilitation Aide

Rehabilitation Network

Hartford Hospital

What happened:

Dan was assisting with a physical therapy treatment when he noticed what appeared to be a firearm tucked into the back waistband pocket of the patient’s son, who was visiting his mother. Dan kept an eye on the visitor throughout the session and when leaving the room with the therapist, he described what he saw. Dan and the therapist alerted the nurse manager, who called Public Safety. It turned out that the visitor was a Drug Enforcement Administration agent. While DEA agents are allowed to carry firearms, weapons are not permitted in our facilities. It was a good catch.

Safety behaviors demonstrated:

Dan demonstrated attention to detail and practiced a questioning attitude. He also followed the public safety guidance, “If you see something, say something.”
