What happened:

Liza was working as a patient screener in the Outpatient Lab area when a patient expressed thoughts of self-harm. Liza ARCC’d this up immediately and Alyssa, the Outpatient Behavioral Health Triage, met with the patient. Using translation services to communicate with this non-English-speaking patient, Alyssa completed an on-the-spot assessment and the patient was admitted for outpatient services.

 

Safety behaviors demonstrated:

Liza was in the moment and paid attention to detail using STAR. She stopped the line for clarity then ARCC’d her concern up the chain of command. Next, Alyssa was fully accountable and responded immediately. She then met with the patient to validate and verify the situation and establish a plan for safety.
