When to Think About ECMO
- Hypotension despite multiple vasopressors.
- Cardiogenic shock refractory to available therapies.
- Respiratory failure requiring prolonged ventilation with high vent settings.
- Hypoxia despite escalating oxygen and PEEP requirements for more than 48 hours.
- Cardiac arrest with return of spontaneous circulation in a potentially viable patient.
What Happens When I Call 972-ECMO?
Your call will go directly to the Hartford HealthCare Care Logistics Center. There, a nurse will gather clinical information about your patient. This gets sent directly to our dedicated ECMO physician on call to review. You will receive a call back from the ECMO physician within 15 minutes to further discuss the patient and determine the best course of action.
What if My Patient Does not Qualify for ECMO?
If it is determined that your patient does not qualify for ECMO at that time, the ECMO physician will offer alternative treatment therapies and help guide care, whether it be at your facility, or at Hartford Hospital.
Who Can Request an ECMO Consultation?
Any physician, physician assistant or nurse practitioner directly involved with the patient can call.
Who Comes to Perform the Procedure?
