If you’re diagnosed with a tumor of the brain or spine, The Hartford HealthCare Cancer Institute’s Neuro-Oncology team draws together experts whose goal is to create the best possible plan of care.
By meeting regularly, the entire team stays on the same page as we explore options, some of which were not available to brain tumor patients just a few years ago.
The Hartford HealthCare Cancer Institute Neuro-Oncology Team is led by:
Based on your personal needs, your team can include any of the following experts:
- Radiologists: Doctors trained to take and read pictures of areas inside the body, using X-rays, CT scans, MRIs and other imaging technologies. Our awake craniotomy program, which uses brain-mapping and functional MRI to determine a map of your brain before removing a tumor, relies on the skills of radiologists and the most advanced technology available to get clear, precise results.
- Pathologists: Physicians trained to investigate the cause of disease by reviewing samples and providing fast, accurate reports that are used to diagnose and determine the best course of care.
- Surgeons: Certified in the use of a new, non-fluorescent dye that helps better identify tumor margins during surgery for better outcomes.
- Medical Oncologists: Physicians with special training in diagnosing and treating cancer using chemotherapy, hormonal therapy and other technologies. At Hartford HealthCare, access to radiation therapy and/or infusion chemotherapy is provided as close to your home as possible.
- Radiation Therapists: Radiation to treat brain or spine tumors is administered by specially trained therapists.
- Clinical Researchers: Cancer Institute experts are committed to ongoing clinical research to develop more effective and less toxic treatments for cancer. Clinical trials can offer you the best treatment option. Our membership in the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Alliance connects patients to an even broader array of clinical trials.
- Survivorship Experts: To fully support you and your family on your cancer journey, we have a Brain Tumor Support Group and an annual educational symposium featuring research updates and progress.
