Sarcomas can affect every aspect of your life. This cancer that arises in the bone, muscle or soft tissue surrounding a bone can impede your ability to walk, sit for long periods, work or even take care of your day-to-day needs.
To provide the best care for people with sarcomas, the Hartford HealthCare Cancer Institute created a Sarcoma Care Team that draws representatives from every medical discipline involved in your treatment. Together, team members will evaluate and diagnose your cancer, then discuss plans for treatment with you and your family.
Orthopedic oncologists: These surgeons treat tumors and cancers of the bones, cartilage, fibrous tissues, muscles, nervous tissues, soft tissues, and blood and lymph vessels
Medical Oncologists: Physicians with special training in diagnosing and treating cancer using chemotherapy, hormonal therapy and other technologies. At Hartford HealthCare, access to radiation therapy and/or infusion chemotherapy is provided as close to your home as possible.
Radiation Oncologists: Physicians who are experts in treating cancer using radiation.
Radiologists: Doctors trained to take and read pictures of areas inside the body, using X-rays, CT scans, MRIs and other imaging technologies.
