Southington

Brian Wong, MD

Brian is a board-certified neurologist who specializes in neuroimmunology. He attended medical school at Georgetown University School of Medicine and completed a residency in neurology and then a fellowship in multiple sclerosis at Brown University/Rhode Island Hospital. His special interests include multiple sclerosis and other demyelinating disorders of the central nervous system. He is a member of the American Academy of Neurology.

Racjel Kurecka, PARachel Kurecka, PA

Rachel is a physician assistant who completed her Bachelor of Science in Neuroscience at the University of Michigan and her Master of Health Sciences at Duke University. She has three years of experience practicing in hospital medicine prior to her transition to neuroimmunology.

  
 

Michael Peshka, RNMichael Peshka, RN

Mike is an experienced registered nurse with a background in acute care and case management. He graduated with a Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing from Central Connecticut State University in 2013. He joined the Ayer Neuroscience Institute in October 2020 with a passion to work with patients with autoimmune conditions. He serves many roles for the Neuroimmunology Department, including facilitating medical approvals, coordinating infusions, and acting as a resource for patient education with autoimmune neurological conditions.

Norwich

Derek Smith, MD

Derek is board certified in adult neurology by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. He earned his medical degree from the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School and completed residency in neurology and neuroscience at New York Hospital through Cornell University. He also completed a fellowship in multiple sclerosis study at Brigham and Women’s Hospital. He is a member of the American Academy of Neurology and the American Association for the Advancement of Science. He is also an assistant professor at Harvard Medical School.

Hannah HurstHannah Hurst, MSN, RN

Hannah is an experienced registered nurse who earned her Master’s Degree in Nursing from Chamberlain University. She has nine years of specialized training in IV therapy, chemotherapy/immunotherapy, and outpatient infusion with Hartford Healthcare. She has been managing the Neuroimmunology infusion Center in Norwich since 2014 and has her ONS/ONCC Chemotherapy/Immunotherapy Certificate.

Carole DeMerchantCarole DeMerchant, RN

Carole is an experienced registered nurse who earned her degree from Three Rivers Community College. She has over 25 years of experience including cardiology, gastroenterology, medical/surgical, and infusion therapy. She brings her diverse background to Neuroimmunology in 2013 and has her ONS/ONCC Chemotherapy/Immunotherapy Certificate.

Lindsey SpitzLindsey Spitz, MSN, RN

Lindsey is an experienced registered nurse who earned her Master’s Degree in Nursing from Chamberlain University. She has eight years of specialized training in IV therapy, chemotherapy/immunotherapy, and outpatient infusion with Hartford Healthcare. She has her ONS/ONCC Chemotherapy/Immunotherapy Certificate. She is also adjunct nursing faculty for both Three Rivers Community College and UCONN nursing programs.
