IOL’s Professionals’ Program Launches Intensive Option for Clients

April 22, 2024

The Institute of Living’s Professionals’ Program has launched a Partial Hospitalization (PHP) option for its clients to provide a more intensive level of services.

The Professionals’ Program is designed to meet the specific needs of individuals who may be struggling to balance their work, interpersonal life, and mental health. The goal of the program is to improve interpersonal life, relationship to work, and day-to-day activities so you may lead a healthy, well-balanced life.

The Professionals’ Program can support individuals struggling with:

  • Depression
  • Anxiety
  • Bipolar disorder
  • Relationship difficulties
  • Bereavement
  • Stress management
  • Life transitions
  • Gender Identity
  • Healthy boundaries

Under the PHP format, individuals attend four hours of therapy five days a week, for between one and three weeks. The program launched in February.

With the type of clientele that participates in the program, the care team wanted to ensure that their PHP met these individuals’ specific goals.

“We wanted them to be able to start (therapy) in one location and finish it in the same location,” explains Brianna Pollock, Ph.D, program manager for the Professionals’ Program at the Institute of Living. “We wanted fewer points of transition throughout the process to facilitate growth. We are sensitive to the need for them to be connected to people who will understand them.”

Through the program, work focuses on helping individuals deal with work, home and life balance. Groups use insight-oriented treatment methods in addition to skills-based work, Pollock says. Helping individuals understand how their life experiences and interpersonal patterns are affecting their current work and relationships is often key.

The PHP component of someone’s treatment plan “will set up a good foundation and help them stabilize,” Pollock says. “Then they step down to the Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP), and that’s really where they can focus on building insight and improving interpersonal functioning.”
