Behavioral Health
Research has shown that behavioral health treatments for headache, including cognitive behavioral therapy and biofeedback, can be as effective as medication when practiced correctly, and can also make headache medication work more effectively. These treatments typically include relaxation training, learning about and managing headache triggers, stress management, and treating comorbid conditions, such as depression, anxiety, or sleep difficulties. Behavioral health treatment is skills-based and psychoeducational, and will typically involve an average of 4-10 individual sessions, depending on the presenting concern.
