Diagnostic Testing for Seizures

There are wide range of tests that may help to diagnose the specific type of epilepsy you are living with.

The Epilepsy Center, through its affiliation with Hartford HealthCare, has access to a wide range of diagnostic tools to study your brain activity. We may suggest you have one or more of the following tests:

Electroencephalogram (EEG)

  • Ambulatory (take home) electroencephalogram (EEG) monitoring of the brain’s activity for 24, 48 or 72 hours
  • Inpatient continuous video-EEG monitoring in the Epilepsy Monitoring Unit
  • Intracranial EEG monitoring
  • Positron emission tomography (PET) with EEG

Imaging

  • 3T magnetic resonance imaging (MRI)
  • Functional MRI
  • PET
  • Single photon emission computed tomography (SPECT)

Other

  • Neuropsychological (memory) testing
