The Surgical Oncology program provides comprehensive multi-disciplinary surgical treatment for patients with cancer.
Our team of surgeons trained in surgical oncology provide state-of-the-art cancer care in conjunction with medical and radiation oncologists and other members of the oncology team, including genetic counseling. Surgical oncologists provide expertise in upper GI and hepato/biliary/pancreatic cancers, skin cancer including melanoma, breast cancers, soft tissue tumors including sarcomas, head and neck cancers, and colorectal neoplasms.
Patients benefit from weekly tumor boards where multidisciplinary clinicians discuss treatment plans, innovative treatment protocols and clinical trials. The surgical oncology division also participates in clinical trials offered by our partner, Memorial Sloan Kettering.
The Cancer Institute's surgical oncologists offer a breadth of diagnostic and therapeutic approaches. Newest treatment modalities include minimally-invasive laparoscopic techniques and sentinel node surgery. This includes the option of Hyperthermic Intraperitoneal Chemotherapy (HIPEC).
