Mary Mulready Sullivan Symposium Hepatocellular Carcinoma: A Multifaceted, Comprehensive Approach

In 2021, an estimated 42,230 new cases of primary liver cancer (including intrahepatic bile duct cancers) will be diagnosed in the US and 30,230 people will die from the disease. Approximately three fourths of liver cancers are hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is the fifth most common cancer in men, worldwide, and seventh among women, with over half a million new cases diagnosed annually worldwide. It is the second leading cause of cancer related mortality in the world.

Chronic liver disease due to hepatitis B virus (HBV), hepatitis C virus (HCV), or heavy alcohol use accounts for the majority of HCC cases and thus, amenable to preventive measures. Many new and exciting trends have occurred in the management of the disease including assessment of the liver; surgical resection; liver transplantation; liver directed therapies with radioembolization, chemoembolization, and thermal ablation; systemic chemotherapy, targeted therapy and immunotherapy approaches; and management of the patient?s adverse effects to optimize quality of life.

The Mary Mulready Sullivan Symposium on May 12, 2021 will feature superb presentations from true thought leaders in the field to update the audience and foster a true multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary approach. This class is eligible for CME credit.
