Under the direction of Lizabeth Roper, MHS, Director of Research, this division provides administrative oversight of Hartford Hospital research activities. The Hartford Healthcare Research Institute also offers a centralized infrastructure of support services to make them affordable to researchers regardless of research volume. The Clinical Research Center and Preclinical Research Facility are also part of the support services offered.
The Clinical Research Center (CRC) at Hartford Hospital, a division of Research Administration, provides administrative and research coordinator support for the research activities of the institution’s medical staff. The CRC supports both investigator initiated studies as well as industry funded trials sponsored by pharmaceutical and medical device companies. As part of Research Administration, the CRC interacts with a multidisciplinary staff with expertise in areas of clinical research design, grant-writing, contract negotiation and budget review, IRB document preparation, database design and data analysis.
The Grants Administration section provides oversight of research financials, contracts, and external grant applications in accordance with regulations and hospital policies. Its staff interfaces with other hospital departments to monitor compliance. Its staff also offers researchers assistance with budget preparation, following accounting procedures, completing external grant submissions and contract negotiation.
The Human Research Protections Program provides oversight of subjects protection in accordance with regulations and hospital policies. Its staff provides administrative support to the Institutional Review Board and Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee, and monitoring of ongoing research activities. Hartford HealthCare has been awarded Full Accreditation by the Association for the Accreditation of Human Research Protection
Programs (AAHRPP) at the March 2016 meeting of its Council on Accreditation.
The Database Design & Development section offers technical assistance, including the creation of databases and specialized data collection instruments, such asTeleform templates. Its staff’s development experience includes Microsoft Access, SQL Server, Web Development, Teleform Design, and ADT/Lab/HL7 Interfacing.
Proposal Design and Statistical Analysis
The Design and Analysis section offers assistance in scientific study design and research analysis. Its scientists have years of collective research experience in most disciplines and are currently working closely with researchers in Cardiology, Medicine, Transplant, Surgery, Trauma, and Women’s Health. Recent collaborative efforts include an NIH program award on health disparites with the University of Connecticut and Hispanic Health Council.
