PGY2 Health-Systems Pharmacy Administration and Leadership Residency

Hartford HealthCare is a fully integrated healthcare system in Connecticut, offering the full continuum of care with seven acute-care hospitals, behavioral health and rehabilitation services, a physician group and clinical integration organization, skilled nursing and home health services, and comprehensive range of services for seniors.

Pharmacy Structure

The pharmacy structure within Hartford Healthcare includes both system and local components. The PGY2 pharmacy resident will be part of the System Support Office (SSO) pharmacy team, which includes the System Pharmacy Director, Clinical, Operations, Sterile Products and Quality/Regulatory Program Managers, Professional Development Coordinator, and Medication Safety Officer, among others. All of the SSO pharmacy members work closely with local pharmacy directors and management teams. The PGY2 pharmacy resident will gain management and leadership experience on both the system and local levels, participating in initiatives, experiences, and projects across Hartford Healthcare.

Purpose

PGY2 pharmacy residency programs build on Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) education and PG1 pharmacy residency programs to contribute to the development of clinical pharmacists in specialized areas of practice. PGY2 residencies provide residents with opportunities to function independently as practitioners by conceptualizing and integrating accumulated experience and knowledge and incorporating both into the provision of patient care or other advanced practice settings. Residents who successfully complete an accredited PGY2 pharmacy residency are prepared for advanced patient care, academic, or other specialized positions, along with board certification, if available.
