Bio

If you need to reach Dr. Kachala by fax, please dial 860-827-1642. Dr. Kachala's summary of Areas of Expertise:

1. Esophageal Cancer – a particular focus for me. Minimally invasive esophagectomies are the primary surgical modality, and I have begun performing these procedures robotically with excellent results.

2. Benign esophageal disease - I also have an interest in benign esophageal disease as well including Zenker’s Diverticula, Paraesophageal hernias, hiatal hernias, and achalasia.

3. Lung Cancer – seeking to provide minimally invasive approaches whenever possible. But also providing comprehensive thoracic surgical therapy to patients with locally advanced lung cancer, such as those with pancoast tumors or chest wall involvement.

4. Mediastinal Masses – including but not limited to thymoma, thymic carcinoma, paragangliomas, schwannomas , and lymphomas. Frequently minimally invasive approaches can be offered with only an overnight hospital stay.

5. Chest wall resection – chest wall tumors such as sarcomas, requiring resection with reconstruction.

6. Finally I have a well-developed toolset of diagnostics approaches – including navigational bronchoscopy, endobronchial ultrasound biopsy (EBUS), mediastinoscopy, and thoracoscopy, most of which can be performed on an outpatient basis.
