Nurses Week 2016: In Recognition of Loyalty, Devotion To Care

May 06, 2016

Nurses Week 2016Nurses do so much in their promotion of health and prevention, their care of the physically and mentally ill and their advocacy for patients and families that it deserves an entire week each year to recognize and celebrate their work. Nurses Week begins May 6, timed to end on Florence Nightingale’s birthday (May 12).

“America’s nurses,” says President Obama, "are the beating heart of our medical system.”

This is especially true for the 3,388 nurses at Hartford HealthCare -- including Milagros Cruz, above, at The Hospital of Central Connecticut -- who play such a vital role in patient care.

"We recognize our nurses for their outstanding expertise, skill and compassion," says Dr. Stuart Markowitz, president of the Hartford Region, "and the sacrifices they make every day to provide the best possible care to our patients and their families."

Our nurses, by location:

  • Hartford HealthCare at Home and Hartford HealthCare Rehabilitation Network: 273 nurses.
  • Windham Hospital: 164.
  • Backus Hospital: 487.
  • MidState Medical Center: 420
  • Hartford Hospital: 1,444.
  • The Hospital of Central Connecticut: 600.
