Charles L. Johnson III will join Hartford HealthCare (HHC) next month as executive vice president and chief financial officer (CFO). His leadership and operational expertise will be critical as we continue to grow, innovate and become more efficient.
Charlie has nearly three decades of leadership experience in healthcare finances, most recently as system vice president for financial services for SSM Health Care, a $5 billion healthcare system based in St. Louis. He brings to HHC extensive competencies in physician alignment, clinical integration, strategic partnerships, and managed-care strategies. His extensive knowledge of healthcare systems will serve us well as we move through a difficult market environment toward a future of value-based care.
Recognizing the challenges ahead, we are reorganizing our financial team under Charlie’s leadership to strengthen this vital organizational function. As an executive vice president and CFO, he will have responsibility and accountability for HHC’s financial strategies, operating and capital budgets, financial planning and reporting, accounting, treasury, tax, ITS, insurance and revenue-cycle operations.
He will lead an exceptional team of professionals that has been ably directed for the past year by Gerald Boisvert, who has served as interim CFO. As part of our new financial organization, Gerry has been named senior vice president for finance operations. In that role, he will oversee financial and business operations, budgeting, and reimbursement. He will continue to provide his leadership and keen financial oversight to key initiatives, such as HHC Thrive, and he will work to consolidate financial systems and resources.
Before joining SSM, Charlie was a senior vice president and CFO at Foote Health System in Jackson, Mich., and vice president and controller at The Detroit Medical Center. He is a graduate of the University of Michigan and holds an MBA from the University of Detroit. He is married and has three sons.
He will begin his work here on July 27 and will report to Elliot Joseph, President and CEO.
