Charles Johnson is executive vice president and chief financial officer (CFO) for Hartford HealthCare. Charlie brings to HHC extensive competencies in physician alignment, clinical integration, strategic partnerships, and managed-care strategies. He has nearly three decades of leadership experience in healthcare finance, most recently as system vice president for financial and treasury services for SSM Health Care, a $5 billion healthcare system based in St. Louis. Charlie also has an extensive knowledge of healthcare payment systems to assist in the challenging market environment of value-based care.

Before joining SSM, Charlie was a senior vice president and CFO at Foote Health System in Jackson, Mich., and vice president and controller at The Detroit Medical Center. He is a veteran of the United States Marine Corps, a graduate of the University of Michigan and holds an MBA from the University of Detroit. He is married and has three sons.

As executive vice president and CFO, he has responsibility and accountability for HHC’s financial strategies, operating and capital budgets, financial planning and reporting, accounting, treasury, tax, ITS, insurance and revenue-cycle operations.
